Maggie Had Liposuction???

As many of you already know, we had a very scary situation a few weeks ago. Our dear little Maggie got into some paper towels soaked in bacon grease. Here is the full story.

On Halloween we prepared a soup that required we cook up some bacon. I hate cooking bacon. It splatters all over the place and is so much work for a little piece of fat! Anyways, as we cooked the bacon the grease just out of control so I used paper towels to soak some of it up! After throwing the paper towels away Maggie got into them and decided she liked the flavor a lot!

The next evening we decided to stay up a little later than we normally do. Looking back we know that we were inspired to do that. Maggie's stomach was very swollen. She was acting the same, but her stomach was HUGE! We took her on a walk and came back home. She was breathing very funny. We got dressed and went to the Pet Urgent Care (This was at midnight).

The vet could not figure out what was wrong with her mainly because she didn't seem to be in any pain. Debbie and I had totally forgotten about the bacon grease. He took an X-Ray and noticed that her stomach was 4 times the size it normally should be. He asked us if we knew of anything that she had eaten. That is when Debbie had remembered the bacon paper towels.

To make a long story short, she went in for emergency surgery within the next hour. Debbie and I were crying like babies. She came out of surgery about an hour later and was very funny. Her little tongue would stick out to lick us but she couldn't pull it back in. She was pretty wasted. The vet explained what he had found and told us that she should make a full recovery. He also explained that he had given her some liposuction! She is a very pampered dog!
Maggie has made a full recovery. She is the same dog, just a little skinnier. She is the best dog we have ever had and we are so happy she is still with us. It really is amazing to see how quickly these little animals can recover from such a major surgery.

We're so glad Maggie is okay! Mac is constantly getting into the garbage - I never knew how dangerous it could be!

I have three kids I have never made a midnight trip to emergency care. I can only imagine how worried you must have been! (And how expensive your bill is going to be ...)

I'm so glad everything worked out!!
