The Sound of Music… Sing-along?

Last night Debbie and I saw The Sound of Music at the Sundance Resort.  We got there about 2 hours before the play would begin to make sure we got seats and didn’t have to sit on the hillside.  We didn’t realize we would actually be “climbing every mountain” to get to the theater.  

After a winded sprint up the mountain side we stood in the beginning of the line and got amazing seats to the sold out performance.  The weather was perfect and we were settling in to see one of our favorite stories unfold.  

Right before it began the producer introduces himself and explains that the musical would be a sing-a-long.  I was a little terrified as to what was going to happen here.  It reminded us of this classic episode of “Will & Grace.”   

Here is a description of the episode: "The 'Sound of Music Sing-Along' has come to town and no one is more excited than Grace. She plans for her and Will to attend the musical in character-like style by dressing up in costumes. However, her presumed-to-be fun night turns into a disaster when she ends up babysitting a group of children and Will accidentally goes to the wrong theater becoming further detained by James, a handsome man he meets. Meanwhile, Karen and Jack try to flee when she gets in trouble with the theater's manager, who blocks off the exits, trapping everyone inside and forcing them to plot their escape."

The episode is so funny.  Click here to see a scene from the show.  The sing-a-long was interjected perfectly and was a fun element to the show.  

The funniest part of our evening happened next.  Right after Maria arrives at the Von Trapp home the weather started getting very windy and the temperature suddenly dropped.  We could see the clouds moving in.  When Frau Schmidt is settling Maria into her room on the first night she says, “It looks like rain.”  The audience bust out laughing and no more than a minute later it started to downpour on us as Maria and the children are singing “Raindrops on Roses.”  The poor actors never broke character!  

Debbie and I couldn’t stop laughing.  It was a perfect!  The nun holding an umbrella led us in “My Favorite Things” and everyone was laughing hysterically. 

The weather cleared by the end of the first act and the rest of the evening was great.

 The acting was great, the children were fantastic and we had a wonderful date night.
